Planning Tips from a Maine Wedding Planner

As a wedding planner who adores unique, nature-filled venues, here are a few must-know tips when planning your big day at Mountain View Wedding Venue in Hartford, Maine:

Venue-Specific Tips & Things to Consider

Build in Extra Time for Setup & Teardown

Since this is a DIY venue with no on-site staff or décor included, you’ll want to schedule plenty of time for setup and cleanup, especially if you’re renting a tent, bringing in rentals, or having multiple vendors on-site.

Review Vendor Access & Arrival Times Carefully

Ask the venue when vendors can access the property before the wedding, especially for larger setups. With the Gold and Diamond packages, you’ll have more time to stagger deliveries and installations stress-free.

No Tent? No Problem—Just Plan Ahead

Since there’s no indoor reception option, a tent is highly recommended. Talk to your rental company early so they can visit the site and account for weather, wind, and ground slope.

Lighting Is Key

With such an open outdoor setting, consider bringing in extra lighting—like bistro string lights, uplighting for trees, or lanterns—to create ambiance once the sun goes down.

Don’t Forget a Plan B for Weather

Maine weather can be unpredictable, even in peak season. I always recommend budgeting for a tent, or at least reserving one on standby to keep your guests comfortable if the skies turn.

Take Advantage of the Golden Hour Views

The ceremony site has incredible sunset light, so time your ceremony to wrap up about 30–45 minutes before sunset for unreal golden hour portraits.

There are a few special spots around the property worth exploring for photos:

• A wooded path near the house for intimate couple shots

• The peak of the hill with panoramic views for dramatic, sweeping portraits

• Open fields with tall grass that glow in the evening light

If your package includes the on-site house, use it to your advantage—host a welcome dinner the night before, plan a low-key breakfast the morning of, or enjoy getting-ready time with your wedding party in a calm, cozy setting.

What’s Included

While Mountain View Wedding Venue is a build-it-yourself kind of space, it still offers several charming features and amenities that make your celebration feel beautifully grounded in nature—with just the right touch of rustic romance.

Here’s what’s included with your rental:

• Breathtaking views of the Presidential Mountain Range spanning both Maine and New Hampshire

• Rustic stone walls, hand-laid centuries ago by early settlers—perfect for photos or grounding your ceremony site in local history

• A newly built wedding arbor made of live edge logs, with optional sheer swag fabric available in cream, gray, pink, or peach to match your wedding aesthetic

• Access to a 7-foot live edge picnic table for dining, décor, or display

• A cozy gas fire pit, ideal for post-reception lounging, s’mores, or a casual welcome night

• A large under-deck swing for relaxing, photos, or just soaking in the view

• On-site parking for up to 75 cars for guests and vendors

These amenities add warmth, charm, and character to your wedding day—and the best part is, they’re already built into the landscape, so you don’t need to overdecorate.

Good to Know

There are a few important details to keep in mind when planning your wedding at Mountain View:

Porta Potty Rental Is Required (2025 Weddings)

For the 2025 season, couples are required to rent portable restrooms, with one unit per 50 guests. Be sure to include this in your rental budget.

New Restroom Facility Coming in 2026

Starting in 2026, the venue will offer a new on-site restroom and sink building with freshwater access, eliminating the need for porta potty rentals in the future.

Outdoor-Only Venue

There is no indoor ceremony or reception space, so couples must rent a tent or alternative shelter. The venue does provide a preferred vendor list to help with rentals and logistics.

On-Site Log Home

One of the standout features of Mountain View Wedding Venue is the newly remodeled, three-story log home available with select wedding packages. Originally built in 2009 and recently updated, this spacious home offers couples and their closest guests a comfortable, scenic retreat during the celebration.

Private Bridal Suite (Lower level of the same house)

The lower level of the home is designed as a private bridal suite and features:

• A full bedroom

• A small kitchen area

• Two couches and a TV

• A foosball table for a little pre-wedding fun

This lower-level suite is also included with the Silver Package for intimate weekday weddings of 50 guests or fewer.
